It is the life work of John Storm, flowing from an almost obsessive quest for knowledge, to be able to understand the origins of mankind and the biological diversity that makes up the world we live in.

It all started when John was on a fact finding archaeological dig in Tanzania, held to be the cradle of life, at Olduvai Gorge in South Africa. He found fossilized human remains, that sparked his interest in anthropology, branding him for life as a collector of DNA, in his search for our past, and pointer to the future.

The Ark's capabilities are significantly enhanced with HAL, the onboard computer system that is loyal to John Storm.

John is keen to add DNA samples to the Ark, from any specimens they might find in Antarctica. When the crew do find evidence of prehistoric giant insects in this geographical location, it fills a large knowledge gap, as to the evolution of life on earth.
