Xi Wu Khan is spellbound by the variety of unknown species, discovered as Antarctica thaws out

Xi Wu Khan is a geologist looking for mineral deposits of coal, oil and natural gas. He is under the command of Lin Po Chang, an important member of a Chinese contingent, sent in and backed by the government to survey for fossil fuel and pharmaceutical companies to secure rights to undiscovered energy and metals resources and to enhance their geological knowledge of the largely unexplored region.

The military are also keen to get a foothold on Antarctic soil, for when the Treaty will come to an end. They are also keen to advance science, and where appropriate, take the credit for any such discoveries.

Xi knows about the fossilized jaw, found by Fabian Bellinghausen. He is also aware of the existence of underground tunnels, from his research on John Cleves Symmes.

In this 'Sectasaur' adventure, Xi Wu Khan, does not know of Lin Po Chang's secret ambition to bring back any fossil finds for his own gain, and to prevent any United Nations claims, or those of the Swedish, but mainly to gain an advantage over the Americans and Canadians.

'Wu Khan,' has heard of John Storm, dismissing the UN conservation consultant as hyped up spin, to put China off from staking their claims. He is open minded as to the possibility of a cure for cancer. And he would relish the opportunity to view the Elizabeth Swann, and the DNA collection in the Ark, as a scientist interested in the evolutionary development of planet earth.

But he will never get that chance ....

There is evidence to suggest that the Sectasaurs were better adapted, and hunted in packs to subdue their larger ecological rivals.
